Ten year treasury yield
The 10 Year Treasury Rate is the yield received for investing in a US government issued treasury security that has a maturity of 10 year. The 10 year treasury yield is included on the longer end of the yield curve. Many analysts will use the 10 year yield as the "risk free" rate when valuing the markets or an individual security. The 10-year Treasury note yield is also the benchmark that guides other interest rates. The major exception is adjustable-rate mortgages , which follow the federal funds rate . The Federal Reserve watches the 10-year Treasury yield before making its decision to change the federal funds rate. This method provides a yield for a 10 year maturity, for example, even if no outstanding security has exactly 10 years remaining to maturity. Treasury Yield Curve Methodology: The Treasury yield curve is estimated daily using a cubic spline model. Inputs to the model are primarily indicative bid-side yields for on-the-run Treasury securities.
